Magnetofection - Gene Transfer

with Magnetic Nanoparticles

Nucleic Acids

carry the building plan of living systems. By intoducing nucleic acids into cells, theoretically any cellular process may be influenced to some particular purpose.

Gene / nucleic acid therapy

is the introduction of nucleic acids into the cells of an individuum in order to achieve therapeutic benefit for the individuum.

Gene vectors

are constructs for introducing nucleic acids into cells. Such constructs can be genetically modified viruses or synthetic nanoparticles.

Viruses

are naturally occuring multifunctional nanoparticles. They exploit natural transport processes in order to penetrate into cells. Essential viral functions of cell entry can be mimicked using tools of nanobiotechnology.

Magnetofection

is nucleic acid delivery under the influence of a magnetic field acting on nucleic acid vectors which are associated with magnetic (nano)particles.

Magnetofection in cell culture

displays an excellent dose-response profile and is an extemely rapid process compared with non-magnetic vectors. Delivery can be localized. Magnetofection is applicable to viral and nonviral vectors for nucleic acid delivery.

Magnetic Microbubbles

Magnetic Microbubbles

are designed for intravascular administration. They are loaded with magnetic nanoparticles and nucleic acids. They can be accumulated in target tissues by magnetic force and can be destroyed by ultrasound.
